Limited Flag: LimUp / LimRange
In April of 2012, Grant Manship of Secretly Canadian lifted the no-mp3 restriction on the MECo collection.
On January 13, 2005, Nate Hileman of Secretly Canadian passed along permission for MECo shows to be hosted at the Archive. Please note, permission is limited to MECo shows only, 2003+ (no Songs: Ohia), and uploads from Steve Marriott (patron id Galt) and/or Secretly Canadian only:

Subject: label permission for hosting
Hello.
I am Nate Hileman, Label Manger for Secretly Canadian, and I would
like to give archive.org permission to host Magnolia Electric Co.
live shows. I would like a link from archive.org to the band's
website: www.magnoliaelectricco.com.
Please write back as soon as possible.
Thank you,
Nate Hileman

Additional qualifications from Steve Marriott:
My name is Steve Marriott, and I am helping out Secretly Canadian / MECo with setting up their archive.org section and uploading shows... Nate @ SC forwarded me your message and asked me to address your questions below.
1) Lossy formats. For the time being, we would prefer not to have lossy copies available. MECo shows are usually recorded by fans with decent equipment rather than dedicated tapers with high end equipment / microphones. Since the original recording might not be the greatest in terms of audio quality, we want to avoid further degradation by encoding to lossy formats.
The shows are usually around 30 to 60 minutes in length, so a typical show may only be around 175 - 275 megs in FLAC. Although that is still a lot for someone to download via dial-up, I think its still do-able (compared to a 3 disc show).
2) Songs: Ohia vs. MECo. The Songs: Ohia material will be off limits. The label wants to focus on the MECo material for now. Fans have different interpretations on when "S:O became MECo", but I'm pretty sure the "official" transition date is around the start of 2003 (I will double check on this).
With archive.org, is it possible restrict uploads just to myself and SC? This would be ideal - We'll provide a way for fans to contribute shows via the Official Magnolia website. That would allow us to review a show, verify its source, correct track listings, other quality assurance, etc. Thus archive.org wouldn't need to worry about if an uploaded MECo show meets our criteria.
If you have any additional comments / questions, feel free to address me directly. Thank you for your help!
